UMOJA VILLAGE UPDATE, because YOU are UMOJA!

1. Homestead exemption: Did you know The Homestead Exemption provides a complete exemption of taxes on the first $50,000 in Fair Market Value (except for school operating taxes) of your legal residence for homeowners over age 65, or totally and permanently disabled, or legally blind?  To qualify all these statements must be true:


1. Hold the title to your primary legal residence or life estate to your primary legal residence or you are the beneficiary of a trust that holds title to your primary legal residence.
2. As of December 31 preceding the tax year of the exemption, you resided in South Carolina as your permanent home and legal residence for a full calendar year.
3. As of December 31 preceding the tax year of the exemption, you must be one of the following: at least 65 years of age; or declared totally and permanently disabled by a state or federal agency; or legally blind.

2. Keep Aiken County Beautiful received a small grant from Keep America Beautiful to help beautify the MLK Corridor in Aiken.  A community feedback meeting will be held Tuesday, April 11th, 5:30 p.m., at the Aiken County Government building to describe the grant, the Aiken MLK Corridor, address citizen concerns related to litter, lighting, landscaping, murals, illegal dumping, etc.  Refreshments provided. 3. Umoja Village received its largest Greater Faith Fellowship Umoja Village 4th Sunday donation of $930.00 from the March collections/matching. Thank you to everyone who donates and to GFF for matching.
