Our Mission
Umoja = Unity.
Founded on June 19, 2020, Umoja Village is a South Carolina-based charitable organization, that encompasses a strategic alliance of Blacks and African Americans united with a common goal: To unify underserved populations and the entire community to bring about positive and sustainable change. To initiate this change, a progressive group of community leaders and citizens came together in Aiken, South Carolina, to develop a comprehensive action plan aimed at identifying systemic racism in several different areas of everyday life. Umoja Village ultimately seeks to establish a resource center to create employment opportunities for subject matter experts to effectively manage resources to better assist the Umoja Village family in all aspects of every day life according to our services family tree to ensure sustainable change for years to come.
Mission Statement:
At Umoja Village, our mission is to unite as many Blacks and African American clubs, organizations, businesses, churches, and individuals (while still maintaining their autonomous mission) to utilize and leverage our own resources, in addition to external resources, to help cultivate a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment within our communities for the betterment of the underserved, underrepresented, marginalized, and for those who have been impacted by the negative effects of prejudice, bias, and systemic racism. To amass its collective resources to hold itself AND local, regional, and national elected officials and leaders accountable to ensure a high quality of life for Blacks and African Americans in every aspect of everyday living.
