The selection committee conducted a very thorough process of reviewing 13 applications received, conducting interviews with each applicant who remained in the process (three applicants withdrew), and holding a thoughtful face-to-face deliberation with all committee members present. A grand total of $24,000 will be distributed this month to seven applicants for this cycle. Each recipient will be required to submit an accountability report.

Under alignment with the Umoja Village mission, these projects represent initiatives that provide empowerment opportunities for youth and adults in the Black/African American communities within the CSRA, especially in Aiken County, to help reduce crime, to educate, to assist in the creation of a more equitable and inclusive environment, and to make positive differences in the lives of the underrepresented, disenfranchised, marginalized, or who've been subjected to the effects of discrimination, bias, or inequities in many facets of life.

Umoja Village is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization established in June 2020. To learn more about the organization, visit www.umojavillage.com.
