UMOJA VILLAGE UPDATE, because YOU are Umoja Village!

March 30, 2022

1. Congratulations to the Aiken Warriors 7th grade team coached by Mr. Ike Hicks.  They came away with the championship win from last weekend's tournament in North Augusta.  Although Umoja Village paid for their practice gyms through May, their fundraising needs continue.  Contact Coach Ike, 803-514-9939. AAU teams are keeping our youth off the streets and involved in positive activities.

2. Congratulations to Schofield Middle School educator Arrington Weston.  Umoja Village founders Don and Donna Wesby presented him a $500.00 check from Umoja Village for his "Fall In Love With Literacy Book Fair" that will take place the first week in May.  This young man works with our youth and has a passion for literacy.

3. Aiken Senior Life Services welcomes seniors 60 and over to receive nutrition, transportation, and enrichment.  An additional dining hall has opened at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1002 Carolina Avenue in North Augusta, for a nourishing hot lunch, fellowship, and fun every Wednesday and Friday, 9A-1P.  For additional details, visit www.aikensenior.org

4. Congratulations to Umoja Village Board Member Jahleel Johnson.  As a junior at USC Columbia, Jahleel was selected one of 75 students who will participate in a yearlong exchange program in Germany beginning this July, "Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals."  Jahleel is a rising star with political aspirations.  This year, there were applicants from 47/50 states, Puerto Rico, and District of Columbia.
