UMOJA VILLAGE UPDATE, because YOU are UMOJA!

November 10, 2022

INFO TO UMOJA:

1. Congrats to 501(c)3 organizations "Hankinson Boxing Gym" and "Vision Youth 2020" for recently being awarded funds through the Umoja Village Funding Allocation Process to support their youth mentorship efforts. HBG received $5,000 and VY2020 received $500, which brings the grand total to $31,650 this year given to 10 of our own orgs to support crime prevention or development initiatives.

2. Today (11/10), from 12-1 p.m., I'll interview reps from Vision Youth 2020 Foundation as my Power Hour guests on WAAW Shout 94.7 FM will discuss their Youth Talent Showcase happening this Saturday, at the Second Baptist Church of Aiken. Youth musical workshop starts 9AM, and the open to the public showcase starts at 3PM.

3. We talk about not knowing our own history, but when events are established to teach it, other ethnicities show up and we don't. Please don't miss Part 2 of Historian Wayne O'Bryant's fascinating talk "Preserving Our History," TONIGHT, 6:30 p.m., Center for African American History Art and Culture, 120 York Street, NE., Aiken.

4. Reminder: Many event details/flyers are listed on the UV Community Calendar, www.umojavillage.com
