UMOJA VILLAGE UPDATE, because YOU are UMOJA!

September 14, 2023

1. Learn more about the City of Aiken's plan to construct a building in which the Savannah River National Laboratory could lease space for a workforce development center. Preliminary findings of a feasibility study on several potential locations will be shared tonight, 6-8 p.m., and Sept. 21st at the Center for African American History Art and Culture, 120 York St., N.E.  Let's show up.

2. If you live in Aiken County District 8 and former County Councilman Willar Hightower was your rep., please vote in the special election on or before Tuesday, Oct. 17th to fill this vacancy, between Democratic candidate P.K. Hightower and Republican candidate James Hankinson.  Both are Black Americans. Every vote counts and matters.

3. Congratulations to the eight Black Americans who completed the first cohort of "So, you want to become an elected official," through a curriculum developed by Donna Wesby of DMW Communications, LLC., and presented by Umoja Village. The completion ceremony was held Monday at Cumberland A.M.E Church in Aiken, with guest speaker national political strategist and television contributor Mr. Antjuan Seawright.
