1. Aiken County Councilman Mr. Willar Hightower announced his retirement at last night's council meeting.  Mr. Hightower's retirement is effective May 31, 2023.  He represented District 8 for 36 of the total 40 years as a public servant.  His wife, Mrs. Perjetta "PK" Hightower, has decided to run for the seat. More info forthcoming.

 
 

2. Lieutenant Lucas Grant of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office made his official announcement last evening that he has entered the race to become the next Aiken County Sheriff. Umoja Village shared info about Mr. Grant months ago, and he appeared as a guest on the Education Matters radio broadcast.  Visit grantforsheriff.com.

General meeting schedules (does not include Special Call meetings): Aiken City Council meetings: Mondays, 7PM, City Council chambers, 111 Chesterfield Street, South in Aiken.  Aiken County Council meetings: First and third Tuesdays (January-June); third Tuesdays (July-November); second Tuesday (December), 7PM, Aiken Government Center, 1930 University Parkway, Suite 3600, Aiken.  Aiken County Board of Education meeting: Second and fourth Tuesdays, 6PM, District Office, 1000 Brookhaven Drive in Aiken.
